Adelaide Roller Derby
For three years now Freerange Future have been major sponsors of the Adelaide Roller Derby League. If you've never experienced roller derby, you're missing out. It's an awesome sport for women: competitive, glamorous and rough. It's unique and it's played on roller skates!
The Adelaide Roller Derby League is a non-profit member run organisation in which all 100+ members are actively involved at the organisational level. It's an amazingly strong and caring community. Our office manager Minx de la Rinx skates for the Mile Die Club, 2009 Adelaide Roller Derby champions. It's not compulsory to be a Mile Die fan to work here, but it helps ;-)
Freerange Future's contribution to this community is two-fold. We designed, built and maintain the Adelaide Roller Derby website. The site design evolves from year to year and embodies the energy and hoopla of derby. The site is a Wordpress CMS and members of the ADRD promotions committee regularly update the site with new blogs and other info.
As well as the site we created the custom scoreboard software projected onto the big screen at Adelaide Roller Derby bouts. Originally a Flash based system, we've now completely rebuilt the software using Javascript. Derby is a pretty complex sport so the scoreboard provides critical information to fans and players alike.
At the Adelaide Roller Derby bouts our MD Nick Crowther takes on the role of scoreboard operator along with a small team of dedicated scoreboard volunteers. Sitting up high at the commentators table, you'd think they have a great spot to watch the bout. You'd be wrong. There's no time for spectating when you're working the scoreboard!
We're really proud to support and be a part of the Adelaide Roller Derby League and of the contribution we've made to this amazing community. We've enjoyed every jam, block and beverage.

Community organizations often struggle to find skilled, passionate and dedicated contributors. When we first started the league we had so much work to do… and a lot of that work required us to have a visual identity and a website. Without hesitation, the Freerange Future team joined our mission to spread the love of Female Flat Track Roller Derby to Australia. We can’t really put into words how brilliant, patient, creative and clever the Freerange Future team are… as they were able to handle all quirky requests, solve all bizarre problems with amazing solutions, and teach us about content management.
